What do you actually do here?
On the art of slowing down in the Ligurian Alps
There is a moment - somewhere between unpacking your bag and the first coffee on the terrace - when you realise you are no longer in a hurry. No meetings. No notifications. Just the sound of wind moving through the olive trees, and a view that needs no filter.
Welcome to Berzi — a secluded hamlet tucked into the Ligurian Alps, just above the Italian Riviera. At The Retreat, a carefully restored stone farmhouse becomes your base for a different kind of holiday. One measured not in sights ticked off, but in mornings spent freely and evenings that stretch without effort.
THE DAILY RHYTHM
A day with no particular plan
You might begin with a walk through the macchia, the Ligurian hillside thick with lavender, rosemary and wild herbs. Or you might simply stay where you are, book in hand, the panoramic mountain view your only companion.
In the afternoon, a short drive brings you to Bajardo: a medieval hilltop village where time has softened to a pleasant blur. A coffee on the piazzetta, a conversation with a local, the village cat appraising you from a warm stone wall. You are the tourist and, yes, that is entirely fine.
Come evening, cook something slow with ingredients from the local market. Watch the light shift from amber to deep rose over the valley. Step outside after dark and count stars you had forgotten existed.
"The peace, the nature, the loving decoration, the wonderful view... Everything is perfect." Jasper & Linda, guests at The Retreat
WHO IT'S FOR
Made for those who seek more than a holiday
The Retreat is not a resort. It is a small, intentional space, designed for writers, artists and photographers in search of focus; for yoga and holistic retreat lovers; for hikers and nature seekers ready to trade speed for depth.
Whether you are planning a creative retreat in Europe, an artist residency in Italy, a yoga retreat in the mountains, or simply a restorative break with no particular agenda — this is a place built to hold that.
Maximum four to five guests at a time. Complete privacy. No noise but your own thoughts.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Slow living is not a trend here, it is the only way
The Ligurian Alps were not made for rushing. The hills do not reward urgency. The Retreat does not either. Come with an open schedule and leave with something you cannot quite name, but will recognise immediately once you arrive.
Ready to slow down? Check availability and book your stay at The Retreat in Berzi, Bajardo.
